i didn't know they were called spirit levels... must be an English (UK) thing?

I always just called them "levels"... if I am correct in what i think you are talking about...

the thing is just an inanimate object. so i don't think it cares where the water is at inside of it... but i could be wrong...

certainly though, some sentimental human might care, on some symbolic metaphorical level or otherwise, it seems.
