restructuring wiki and integrate old blog posts into MediaWiki

moving all blog posts to MediaWiki?

I'm also pondering about moving all my previous blog posts (before March 2009) into here.
Thoughts:

• Google may give some negative points
  • could be handled with 301 redirects
    • e.g. for my Wordpress blog:
      the Wordpress plugin Simple 301 Redirects does a good job :-)
      • while importing now:

- it's quite a task (keep layout; read (if time); as I found out I also translated back then all to German, so the amount of posts is doubled, ...)

- one plan was to reply also to the original blog posts (e.g. my view 5 years later), but I'll postpone this or I never finish in the time I have allocated :-(

- nice, found some drawings I made back then :-)

• • • 2011-10-28: finally imported :-) though needs some layout work + review on the past
  • other blogs may be more worrisome, e.g. the wiki kind (Wikiversity blog, Wikiversity PLE, NetKnowledge) or last.fm journal
    • since I can't do a 301 redirect + linking from there to here is not nice (/me as admin would not allow at least)
• decentralizing is good though, e.g. when the wiki gets offline
  • on the other hand: I could bring at least the 72 Wordpress blog posts to here
    since they run on same server I could let Wordpress die + give the server resources to MediaWiki & Co. :-)
• moving to here is effort
• but the good thing is: I've all here and can in the future probably extract better data (e.g. with the Semantic MediaWiki extension)
• licence should be no problem, since I created them + where needed (e.g. comments by others) I can exclude this from this wiki's licence: CC-BY-NC
• another advantage: each Mediawiki page has a public view counter

(which the Wordpress blog did not have - or I would have needed to install a plugin for this)

restructuring MediaWiki: easier access to galleries + tables

Have been restructuring the wiki a little after the MediaWiki upgrade:

• sidebar got 2 new sections:
  • special data
    • Actually the thought of creating these from already existing data was from the Semantic Mediawiki (SMW) upgrade.
      I needed a little time to find the tables + galleries, so I think t was a good decision, since others would need even more time.
      So far I perceived the effort for SMW as too much, e.g. typing in the data myself
      so I was thinking, I'll try the next round with: doing semantic on media, because there it might be "not wasted" (from my feeling :-))
    • Pages with galleries
    • Pages with tables
  • erkan yılmaz (it's not an i, but an ı)
    • with links to external accounts, e.g. micro-blogging types and other wikis
• upgraded some extensions
