I am checking out Friendica at the moment, see my server here

My initial goal is to explore the federation aspect.

direct communication to friendika users (24 of my 91 contacts are friendika users)
sending dents to external networks (first to identi.ca and identi.ca crossposts to twitter)
- I import other contacts (e.g. from identi.ca) only when I want to reply to them (via Ostatus)
  (since my goal is to store my data at my servers; though I send messages also to identi.ca (since they are longer than 140 chars) people still have to view them at my servers)

somehow these issues seem to block me from using friendika more widely:

large waste of gui
I've quite some contacts I am reading and I do not want to scroll, press next and wait for loading or whatever,
see bug: feature: add an overview page for all messages
also there is no automatic contact importer of friends from my other networks :-(
which again costs time, see bug: import contacts from other networks
licence problems, when you import from other sources they may not be compatible with Friendika's licence (CC-by)

well, another advantage of this: I still see the GUI of other social networks

tbh: I do not want to use a desktop client
since I'm too much cut from the program itself, it's then just messages which come in and go out
and I stay on top of new GUI changes

let's see how it will be, when the new friendika gui comes, take a peak here

is provided with the plugin statusnet
- (from 3 installs it did not work 1 time, see here)
doesn't need an extra service like brdcst.it for StatusNet
also immediately posted (brdcst's fastest interval is 30 mins)

broken + msg also cut (ommiting the !friendika tag so others can see) when sending to identi.ca :-( e.g. here (message at friendika)
- lesson: write tags at begin from now on :-(

- could not find one so far :-( e.g. statusnet is available

evolution of DB size
- since data is now stored at my side, it will be interesting to see after some months how large the DB itself will get
