Do you want accidents to appear

From I ask questions
Jump to: navigation, search

Act I - intra

scenario: while one is focussed on getting the goal done...
.. hands on keyboard and suddenly you slip the key (in my case the strg-key)

and wondering: "I did not think of pressing the strg key actually
my finger moved by itself..."

Wondering what else is done automatically by body / mind?
All actions are small steps (in parallel/iterative/..?) which build something...
thinking about each step would make things ... slower?

So, any accident is welcome which throws me out of the routine (1)

Act II - inter

I am pretty sure the above thought was triggered by today's post about Suicide Linux or things like esoteric programming languages...

Before I went showering I had a thought for a few secs which I did not pursue any more due to other thoughts (yes, thoughts and thoughts and thoughts, it's all a circle)
But my mind seems have been busy with the answer to that question, it had to do also with: Counterfactual history...

It is not ripe yet, but it goes like this...

One tends to think when doing something (e.g. releasing software):
it should fulfill certain (stakeholder's) goals, important things done (e.g. bugs gone or noted in a list)...
So, one makes necessary preparations so all in the team can work towards achieving those "valuable things"
BUT, what about: if you don't care for that?
I mean not in the sense of like a:
  • hacker (who wants bad software to get into the system) or
  • irresponsible manager (like: knowing about errors brings responsability: I do not know, so I can not be made responsible)

What if you just do the opposite of what you normally do? It seems awkward for certain, since it's illogical to do that.
One may be blocked by thoughts like: that is bad, one has to pay for the loss, ...
but... what good things can one learn from that?
(e.g. not in the sense of: "Ah ok, I understand now why we have to do these and those steps...")
One question may also be: is one in the situation to do (controlled) experiments?
But... should learning be dominated by thoughts of outcome? No? Yes?

notes

(1) had to think of an old blog post from March 2007 while writing this: use also the other shoe lace
