Do you agree that same error should not be made twice

From I ask questions

what's going on in that brain?

user[1]: We have to be more accommodating of errors. It's the errors from which we learn stuff. We should just be careful not to make the same error twice.

me: I agree on the error and learning part but don't agree on the number Smile.gif

Why not twice? Some need more time to learn or a deeper experience Smile.gif Also: the more you think about something the more facets you could see. Sometimes it is just the way to the goal that counts.

To clarify: I am surely not the only who has done same errors >=2 times. I would not say that I am then stupid or so, but perhaps I am just a human who falls in the biological traps (e.g. example I had: when the windows boot screen comes, sometimes I select the wrong one than what I wanted. Why was that? Because my mind/body selects automatically the one I used most often -> Pawlow and his dog perhaps?)

Thinking about why that happens is a good thing

edit 2011-10-21:
some more chat about this topic with another user
<user> I guess for most people the only way to judge what is learned is actions that happen after the mistake was made, is the same mistake made
<ErkanYilmaz2> I blogged once aboutthis, let me see if I find it
<user> but sometimes people acknowledge that they made a mistake <SNIP>
<ErkanYilmaz2> http://www.skilledtests.com/wiki/Blog:Observations/Do_you_agree_that_same_error_should_not_be_made_twice
<user> well I was oversimplifying my views
<user> the same mistake can be made because either the person didn't understand the mistake or solutions, or the person made the same mistake for different reasons
<user> or in the worse case, they don't agree it was a mistake, believe they were in the right, and continue to do as they please
<ErkanYilmaz2> well, my view is that the 2nd mistake triggers again thoughts
<ErkanYilmaz2> perhaps I am just seeing the person self + not the environment
<ErkanYilmaz2> so, in the type: triggering thoughts is a good thing
<user> another way to put it might be that the same mistakes happen again and again because there is still something to be learned
<ErkanYilmaz2> that sounds too negative I think
<ErkanYilmaz2> needing to be learned can also be positive
<user> the same mistakes happen again and again because there is still something to learn
<ErkanYilmaz2> ok Smile.gif
<user> better?
<ErkanYilmaz2> yes
<ErkanYilmaz2> because I assume learning never stops
<ErkanYilmaz2> but the previous one:
<user> I know from personal experience how mistakes can happen repeatedly
<ErkanYilmaz2> "the same mistakes happen again and again because there is still something to be learned"
<ErkanYilmaz2> sounded negative, though the difference is just in 2 words:
<ErkanYilmaz2> removed: be
<user> yeap
<ErkanYilmaz2> and removed ed in learned
<user> changed it from past tense to present tense

  • ErkanYilmaz2 wonders if it's just that
